Summer Qigong Lesson 3
5m 28s
This is part 3 of the 6 part Summer Qigong Series.
In this lesson, we will learn a movement that uses a strong, dynamic movement in order to powerfully open up the meridians of the body. Summer represents the apex of Yang Qi in the world. Because of this, we use a strong Yang motion in order to allow Yang Qi to fill up the meridians and to invigorate the meridians of the body and energize us.
1) Begin by settling the mind, body, and qi into the Dan Tian. Because the movement itself is very dynamic and "Yang" in character, we must take the time to properly balance it with a base of relaxed "Yin" energy. Therefore, we will spend a little extra time to focus on the breathing and make sure the body is totally relaxed so that the meridians are as open as possible to let Yang Qi surge through.
2) When you are ready, we draw the hands to either sides of our hips, with the palms facing up. Take a moment to gently hold the breath (make sure not to "tense up" or "lock up" your body. Simply stop inhaling and make sure not to exhale immediately). Slide up the right hand until it is level with the ribs.
3) We then push the palm forward in a swift motion. It is important to remember that we don't not use muscular force, but instead feel the Qi surge from the Dan Tian and thrust the hand forward to push. There should be no forceful tension, but instead just the Qi of the body leading the Right Palm forward.
4) Breathe in. Hold the breath for a moment as you prepare the Left Hand by sliding it up to rib height.
5) When you are ready: thrust the Left Palm out. At the same time: withdraw the Right Hand back to the Right Hip.
6) Follow along and repeat the motions.
7) We conclude this lesson by circling the arms up as we breathe in. As we circle the arms back down, we breathe out.
8) Place both hands on the Dan Tian and rub it in circular motions to help spread whatever remaining Qi there is to the rest of the body.
9) Drape the arms over your legs and relax the body once more.
