6m 13s
Welcome to the Summer Qigong Series!
This is lesson 1 of a 6 part series. In this lesson you will learn you will learn the opening of the Qigong series as well as the first movement.
PART 1:
We begin by settling the mind and body with deep breathing focused on the Dan Tian (the area just below the navel).
1) Make sure to try to relax the entire body.
2) Let your eyelids lower and close so that your eyes or only half-open.
3) We will focus the attention strictly on this breathing for one minute so as to clear the mind and prepare ourselves for the lesson.
PART 2:
Next, we will begin the practice itself. In the first movement, we begin by taking a breath in and feeling the qi enter the body and sinking down the Dan Tian.
1) When we breathe in, the arms with rise upwards.
2) When we breathe out, the arms will circle back towards our Dan Tian and help gather in the dynamic Summer Qi into our Dan Tian.
3) Relax the whole body again.
PART 3:
Next, we will learn the first movement of the Summer Qi Gong set. This movement is meant to invigorate the spine and awaken it in order to allow Yang Qi to fill up the spine and thus act as a wellspring for the Yang Qi to spread throughout the rest of the body.
1) Take a breath in. Initiating the movement from the Dan Tian, roll the body as far forward as you comfortably can.
2) Breathe out. Once again starting the motion from the Dan Tian, roll your body back up to the starting position. as you roll back, try to feel each and every vertebrae gently pull itself back into position one by one until you are sitting in a straight position once more.
Your body should feel as though it were like a wave in the motion. Gentle with a fluid and calming movement to it.
PART 4:
Next, we will continue to invigorate the spine by performing the motion from side to side. First, the left side.
1) Take a breath in. Once again starting from the Dan Tian, lean the body towards the left as you comfortably can.
2) Breathe out. Starting the motion from the Dan Tian, roll the body back to neutral position. Just like before, feel each vertebrae rolling back into neutral position in a wave-like pattern.
PART 5:
Repeat Part 5, this time on the Right Side.
PART 6:
We finish this lesson by settling the Qi back into the Dan Tian and letting go of any tension that might have arisen from our practice.
1) Take a breath in. As you breathe in, raise up the arms up at both sides of the body.
2) Breathe out. At the same time, let the arms settle back down into the lap just in front of the Dan Tian.
3) Relax the whole body and feel the Dan Tian relaxed, but sitting comfortably with warm, Yang Qi.
4) Use both hands to rub the Dan Tian in a circular pattern to help spread the accumulate Yang Qi outwards to the rest of the body.
